Pedestrian Injured in Mount Shasta Hit-and-Run; Driver Arrested

DUI and felony hit-and-run charges filed following January 4 collision on Chestnut Street

An elderly woman was seriously injured in a hit-and-run collision Saturday afternoon in Mount Shasta, according to the Mount Shasta Police Department.

Police said officers responded to multiple 911 calls at approximately 1:30 p.m. on January 4 regarding a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 200 block of Chestnut Street. Upon arrival, officers located an elderly female pedestrian who had sustained significant injuries.

Emergency medical services and fire personnel responded to the scene, and the victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Witnesses provided officers with a description of the suspect vehicle and its direction of travel. Based on that information and subsequent investigative efforts, officers were able to locate and stop the suspected vehicle.

The driver was identified as 45-year-old Jeffrey Scott Lensing. Officers determined Lensing was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision, police said. He was taken into custody without incident.

After being medically cleared, Lensing was booked into the Siskiyou County Jail on felony charges, including driving under the influence causing bodily injury and hit-and-run resulting in injury.

The Mount Shasta Police Department thanked citizens who stopped to render aid to the victim and provided timely and critical information to officers, noting their assistance played a significant role in the rapid identification and arrest of the suspect.

Police said their thoughts are with the victim and her family and expressed hopes for a full and swift recovery.

Anyone with additional information related to the incident is encouraged to contact the Mount Shasta Police Department.
