High-Speed Pursuit Ends with Arrest in Grants Pass

Deputies deploy spike strips multiple times before suspect stops and flees on foot

GRANTS PASS, Ore. — A vehicle pursuit early Tuesday morning ended with an arrest after deputies deployed spike strips multiple times and the suspect fled on foot, according to the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies attempted to stop a spray-painted black vehicle for a traffic violation around 1:53 a.m. March 31 on Redwood Highway near Glendon Road. Authorities said the driver failed to stop and fled northbound on Redwood Highway.

Spike strips were deployed near Wonder, but the vehicle continued north. Officials said the driver-side front tire came apart near milepost 10, yet the vehicle continued traveling on three tires. Deputies deployed spike strips three additional times before the vehicle finally stopped near Elmer’s Restaurant on the Grants Pass Parkway.

The driver then fled on foot and was taken into custody after a short pursuit involving deputies and officers from the Grants Pass Police Department. The Oregon State Police also assisted during the incident.

Authorities identified the driver as Anthony Lynn Foster, 34. He was lodged at the Josephine County Jail on charges including felony elude, misdemeanor elude, reckless driving, possession of a controlled substance (fentanyl), felon in possession of a weapon, driving while suspended, escape in the third degree, and parole violation.

No additional information was released.
