JCSO Seeks Driver in Fatal Gold Hill Hit-and-Run

UPDATE, 5/16/26 7:00 p.m.: Sheriff’s Deputies make arrest in fatal hit-and-run case.

Detectives are asking for the public’s help after a 47-year-old pedestrian was found dead early Saturday on Access Road near Blackwell Road.

GOLD HILL, Ore. — Jackson County Sheriff’s Office detectives are asking for the public’s help as they investigate a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian early Saturday morning in the Gold Hill area.

JCSO deputies responded at 3:12 a.m. Saturday, May 16, to a report of a man down on Access Road near the Jackson County Fire District 3 Gold Hill Station and Blackwell Road.

Medics were dispatched, but the 47-year-old man died from his injuries before they arrived, according to JCSO.

Investigators said the crash happened sometime between 1:30 and 3:12 a.m. The involved vehicle is believed to have been traveling north on Access Road, off Interstate 5 Exit 40, toward the intersection with Blackwell Road.

 
 

The suspect vehicle’s make and model are unknown at this time. Investigators believe the vehicle may have damage to the headlight, hood, or windshield.

The Jackson County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team responded to assist with the investigation.

Anyone with information about the crash, the suspect, or the involved vehicle is asked to call the Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon non-emergency number at 541-776-7206 and reference case 26-2466.

Next of kin has been notified. JCSO said the victim’s name is not being released at this time.

The case remains active and ongoing.
