A man has been arrested following an early-morning homicide investigation near Bend after deputies discovered a woman deceased at a property north of the city, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.

The Deschutes County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Jan. 14 to consider proposed wildfire mitigation standards for new residential construction in unincorporated areas of the county.

A 21-year-old Portland man was arrested in Bend after allegedly fleeing deputies, crashing a stolen truck, and being found passed out behind the wheel. Investigators say the suspect was impaired and required medical treatment before being taken into custody.

Four people were killed in separate highway crashes across Oregon over a two-day period, with Oregon State Police investigating fatal incidents in Klamath, Deschutes, Josephine, and Columbia counties.

Deschutes County Solid Waste has added new drop-off containers for hard-to-recycle materials—including plastic bags, lids, shredded paper, and aluminum trays—at transfer stations and Knott Landfill beginning December 2.

The City of Redmond and Deschutes County have approved a joint plan to co-manage a 10-acre homeless camp near the Redmond Airport. The managed site will include 72 campsites with utilities and services, and is expected to open by January 2026.
