Active Weather Pattern Returns This Week

Multiple fronts and an atmospheric river will bring gusty winds, widespread rain, and changing snow levels across Southern Oregon and Northern California

Active weather returns this week as the first in a series of weather fronts arrives late tonight into Monday. This initial system will be relatively weak compared to stronger fronts expected Tuesday and later in the week. Increasing winds and light to moderate rainfall are expected along and west of the Cascades through Monday.

A stronger front is forecast to arrive late Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing gusty winds across the entire area. The strongest winds are expected along the coast and east of the Cascades, where damaging winds are possible. Widespread rainfall is also expected, with the heaviest precipitation along the coast and in the Cascades. Snow levels will remain high, between 6,000 and 8,000 feet, limiting winter weather impacts at this time.

Showers will linger into Wednesday as snow levels lower to around 4,500 to 5,000 feet, which could result in light snow in the Cascades.

An atmospheric river is expected to arrive on Thursday, bringing another round of strong winds and moderate to heavy precipitation. This system is forecast to last longer than the Tuesday front. Snow levels will rise again to around 6,000 to 7,000 feet, keeping winter weather impacts minimal during the heaviest precipitation, which is expected through Thursday.

Precipitation intensity will decrease on Friday, but snow levels will drop to around 3,500 to 4,000 feet Friday night. This could lead to minor snow impacts in the Cascades and east side areas into Saturday morning.

Gusty winds throughout the week may result in difficult driving conditions, and some power outages are possible. At this time, flooding concerns remain low due to low river levels and limited snowpack, though the Coquille River may need to be monitored toward the end of the week. Ponding on roadways is possible during periods of heavy rainfall.

Stay tuned for updates as forecast details are refined over the coming days.
