MEDFORD, Ore. — Families in Jackson County facing food insecurity are receiving additional support for their pets thanks to a new $10,000 grant aimed at expanding pet food distribution at local pantries.

ACCESS announced the funding was provided by Friends of the Animals (FOTAS), allowing the organization to supply dog and cat food at select ACCESS food pantry locations. The support is intended to help families avoid difficult decisions between feeding themselves and caring for their pets.

According to ACCESS, the grant has already helped secure significant quantities of pet food, including nine pallets containing 211 bags of Nutra-Nugget dog food and 111 bags of ABOUND cat food.

The organization also noted that Fred Meyer in North Medford provided a substantial discount on pet food purchases, allowing ACCESS to stretch the grant funding further and provide additional supplies to the community.

Officials say the partnership highlights ongoing community collaboration to support both residents and their companion animals during times of need. ACCESS distributes food across Jackson County through its network of food pantries and partner agencies.
