According to the sheriff’s office, Siskiyou County was one of 44 law enforcement agencies across the country to volunteer personnel for the assignment.
Evans was deputized Friday on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial as part of a U.S. Marshals Service task force. The special deputation gives participating state and local officers temporary federal authority while they assist U.S. Marshals and U.S. Park Police personnel during the deployment.
“Deputy Evans is not only representing Siskiyou County at the Nation’s Capital,” the sheriff’s office said, “but is also the only law enforcement officer from California on this deployment.”
The U.S. Marshals Service said the task force officers are helping provide added security support during anniversary-related events in Washington, D.C. The Great American State Fair is scheduled on the National Mall from June 25 through July 10, with additional events expected around the nation’s capital.

“We are proud to share that in the first few days on the job he has already made a fantastic impression,” the sheriff’s office said.
In a follow-up comment, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office said the assignment is being paid for by the U.S. Marshals Service.
The sheriff’s office asked the community to wish Evans a safe deployment and said it expects to share additional updates from Washington, D.C.
