North Medford Gym Rebuild Moves Forward

Early construction marks key step in restoring campus centerpiece after collapse

MEDFORD, Ore. — Early construction is now underway on the rebuild of the gymnasium at North Medford High School, signaling a major step forward in restoring a central hub for students, athletics, and the broader school community.

Following the collapse of the original gymnasium roof, the Medford School District has worked closely with engineers, insurance representatives, and contractors to plan the safe demolition and reconstruction of the facility.

During spring break, crews completed removal of the original concrete slab and replaced it with a new gravel base. Stormwater work has been approved by the City of Medford, and final construction documents have been submitted for full building permit approval, which is expected by mid-May.

District officials say construction is progressing on schedule, with a significant portion of the gym’s structural framework anticipated to be in place by the start of the next school year. Full completion of the project is currently planned for late fall 2027.

Once complete, the new gymnasium will restore a key gathering space on campus, supporting athletics, physical education classes, assemblies, and school events that have long been part of the North Medford High School experience.

“On behalf of the North Medford staff and students, I would like to recognize the tremendous support received from The Black Tornado Club, The West Family Foundation, multiple business partners, and the greater Medford community, who have dedicated so much to the gym rebuild,” said Principal Allen Barber. “We are excited for the future and can’t wait to dedicate this new facility to the Black Tornado Family.”

The Medford School District says it will continue to provide updates as construction progresses.
