Missing Eugene Man Found Deceased Near Ashland

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office confirms identification; cause of death pending investigation

RURAL ASHLAND, Ore. — The body of a man reported missing out of Eugene since December has been located outside Ashland, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Medical Examiner detectives have scientifically identified the individual as Damon Lee Petrie, 60, of Eugene. Sheriff’s officials extended condolences to Petrie’s family and friends.

Petrie was reported missing on December 18, 2025, prompting extensive search efforts involving sheriff’s deputies, detectives, and Search and Rescue personnel. Authorities say those efforts continued over the following weeks.

On Saturday, February 7, Petrie’s body was discovered by a hiker near Mill Creek Drive and Highway 66, outside the Ashland city limits.

The cause and manner of death remain under investigation and are pending the results of an autopsy and toxicology report. Officials stated that no additional information is available at this time.
