Lady Owls Reach Bracket Final

Oregon Tech held off Our Lady of the Lake 2-1 in Klamath Falls, moving the Lady Owls into Wednesday’s NAIA Opening Round bracket final at Stilwell Stadium.

KLAMATH FALLS - Oregon Tech is moving on to the Klamath Falls Bracket final after holding off Our Lady of the Lake, 2-1, Tuesday afternoon at Stilwell Stadium.

The Lady Owls scored early, then leaned on pitching and defense late as the Saints stranded 10 runners, including the bases loaded in the seventh inning. With the win, Oregon Tech improved to 43-8 in the NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round.

Oregon Tech took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Nita Cook walked, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Malia Mick, and scored on an Addison Kachnik RBI single. The Lady Owls added another run in the second after Hayden Rockwell singled, Jazmine Macias doubled, and Cook drove in Rockwell with a groundout.

Our Lady of the Lake cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth on a solo home run by Lilly Rocha, then threatened again in the fifth and seventh innings. Kristine Schmidt entered in relief in the fifth and worked out of a bases-loaded jam, then escaped another bases-loaded situation in the seventh to close out the win.

Alli Parker earned the win for Oregon Tech, allowing one run on six hits over 4.1 innings. Schmidt picked up her third save of the season, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Kachnik and Cook each drove in a run, while Sawyer Stenson and Macias each recorded doubles.
