Car Hits SOU Building
Officials say a vehicle crashed into Stevenson Union on the SOU campus, rupturing a gas meter and prompting an evacuation Tuesday afternoon.
ASHLAND - A driver was injured Tuesday afternoon after a vehicle crashed into a building on the Southern Oregon University campus, according to Ashland Fire & Rescue.
Firefighters responded with the Ashland Police Department after a car crashed into Stevenson Union and ruptured a gas meter. Firefighters extracted the driver from the vehicle and shut down the gas line.
Students, faculty, staff, and workers were evacuated from the building while emergency crews secured the area. The incident began around 12:30 p.m. and continued for several hours as crews remained on scene.
The vehicle was removed by a tow truck, and a fire crew worked with Avista personnel to clear the building for re-entry shortly after 2 p.m.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
