Driver Arrested After Josephine County Pursuit

Sheriff’s office says deputies ended the pursuit for safety before locating the suspect vehicle on Savage Creek Road

JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. — A man was arrested Wednesday morning after Josephine County deputies say he fled a traffic stop in a pickup truck towing a trailer near Rogue River Highway.

According to the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to stop a black pickup truck towing a trailer on Rogue River Highway near Gordon Way at about 5:20 a.m. on May 13.

Deputies said the vehicle failed to yield and eluded law enforcement. The sheriff’s office said the vehicle continued driving even after one of the trailer tires blew out.

The pursuit continued onto Savage Creek Road. Deputies later terminated the pursuit for safety reasons after the vehicle began driving into oncoming lanes, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies continued searching the area and located the vehicle stopped in the middle of the road on Savage Creek Road. The driver had fled on foot, but deputies said he surrendered shortly afterward and was taken into custody.

The sheriff’s office also clarified that, contrary to initial reports, there was no child inside the fleeing vehicle.

Scott Ireys was lodged at the Josephine County Adult Jail on charges of felony elude, misdemeanor elude, reckless driving, escape III, and a Jackson County felony warrant.
