Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested in Grants Pass

Police say suspect was located and arrested less than 45 minutes after the robbery at a local bank.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. — A woman was arrested Friday afternoon after police say she robbed a bank in Grants Pass.

According to the Grants Pass Police Department, officers responded at approximately 12:26 p.m. on March 6 to a report of a robbery at People’s Bank on Northeast 7th Street.

Because of the seriousness of the incident, detectives from the department’s Major Crime Unit were called in to assist with the investigation.

Following the initial investigation by patrol officers and detectives, authorities identified the suspect as Renee Freitas, 58.

 
 

Police said that less than 45 minutes after the robbery was reported, a Grants Pass Police School Resource Officer located Freitas near the Grants Pass Shopping Center.

Freitas was taken into custody and lodged at the Josephine County Jail. She faces charges of Robbery in the Second Degree, two counts of Menacing, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Theft in the First Degree.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation was also notified of the arrest.

Officials say additional questions regarding the case should be directed to the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office.
