Overnight Motorhome Fire in Murphy

Resident suffered minor burns as flames destroyed a motorhome and spread to a nearby vehicle and trees.

MURPHY, Ore. — A motorhome being used as a residence was destroyed in an overnight fire early Tuesday in the 6100 block of Cloverlawn Drive, according to Rural Metro Fire.

The fire was first reported around 3:01 a.m. by a neighbor who initially believed it was a grass fire. Responders said explosions were later heard coming from the area, which can be common in vehicle or structure fires as fuel tanks, tires, or other pressurized items become involved.

The occupant of the motorhome suffered minor burns while attempting to extinguish the flames before crews arrived. The fire later spread to an adjacent vehicle and nearby trees.

Firefighters with Rural Metro Fire quickly contained and extinguished the blaze with mutual aid assistance from Grants Pass Fire Rescue. Deputies with Josephine County Sheriff's Office also responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
