Asante Says ATRIO Owes Nearly $60 Million

Asante Announces ATRIO Coverage Dispute, Advises Members to Review Options

Southern Oregon — Asante Health System announced that ATRIO Health Plans owes approximately $60 million for health care services already rendered to ATRIO Medicare Advantage members.

According to Asante, ATRIO’s Medicare Advantage coverage became out of network with Asante effective January 1, 2026. Asante states that ATRIO has repeatedly failed to pay for care provided to its members.

Because of the outstanding balance, Asante said it will not be able to offer new routine care appointments for ATRIO members after March 31, with several exceptions. Routine appointments that are already scheduled will remain unchanged through June 30.

Enrollment Deadline Approaching

ATRIO Medicare Advantage members who wish to continue receiving care from Asante providers have until March 31 to change to an alternative Medicare Advantage plan during the open enrollment period.

Asante has notified patients identified as ATRIO members and says its billing and customer service teams are available to answer questions at (541) 789-7382.

Statement from Asante Leadership

“It’s core to our Mission to provide high-quality, compassionate care to our patients,” said Heather Rowenhorst, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Asante. “This decision reflects our commitment to our communities to ensure the sustainability of Asante and health care in southern Oregon. With the current and impending economic headwinds health care organizations are facing today, we cannot sustain the continued lack of payment.”

Rowenhorst added, “This is a regrettable circumstance that ATRIO has caused for its members in southern Oregon. The refusal by ATRIO to pay its bills has forced this decision. The problem and the solution have fallen squarely with ATRIO to resolve.”

Services That Will Continue

Asante stated it will continue providing services considered high risk for disruption, including cancer care and behavioral health services. Emergency services will also remain available to ATRIO members.

Regulatory and Legal Action

Asante said it is continuing to petition both the Oregon Department of Financial Regulation and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to take action regarding the matter.

The health system noted that additional information about its relationship with ATRIO is available through a legal complaint filed in Jackson County Circuit Court, Case No. 25CV55891.

Community members who wish to file complaints may do so directly with state or federal regulators. Asante has also provided a letter template and additional resources on its website.
