Arrests Made in Klamath Falls Murder Investigation

Police say victim later died from injuries after assault at vacant Cypress Avenue residence

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — Three suspects have been arrested in connection with a homicide investigation that began after a severely injured man was discovered inside a vacant residence in Klamath Falls.

According to the Klamath Falls Police Department, officers responded at approximately 10:52 a.m. on Feb. 26 to a welfare check at a vacant home located at 875 Cypress Avenue. A caller had reported an unhoused man inside the residence who was naked and appeared to have been assaulted.

Police say the victim was suffering from life-threatening injuries and was first transported to Sky Lakes Medical Center before later being transferred to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. The victim later died from those injuries.

Following the victim’s death, the Klamath County Major Crime Team was activated and the case was escalated to a homicide investigation.

During the investigation, detectives identified three suspects believed to be involved in the incident.

The first suspect, 49-year-old Jamie S. Harrington, was located and arrested without incident at 6:05 a.m. on Feb. 27. She was lodged at the Klamath County Jail on charges of:

  • Kidnapping in the 1st Degree

  • Criminal Conspiracy for Murder in the 1st Degree

The second suspect, 34-year-old Reggie L. Townsend Jr., was taken into custody during a high-risk traffic stop at 11:33 p.m. on Feb. 28. He was lodged at the Klamath County Jail on charges including:

  • Murder in the 1st Degree

  • Kidnapping in the 1st Degree

  • Unlawful Use of a Weapon

  • Tampering with Evidence

  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm

The third suspect, 39-year-old Wesley J. Powless, was arrested during a traffic stop at approximately 2:02 p.m. on March 2. He was lodged on charges including:

  • Murder in the 2nd Degree

  • Kidnapping in the 1st Degree

  • Assault in the 1st Degree

  • Tampering with Evidence

Authorities say the Klamath County Major Crime Team—which includes investigators from the Klamath Falls Police Department, Klamath County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, and the Klamath County District Attorney’s Office—is continuing the investigation.

Klamath Falls police also thanked the public and partner agencies for their assistance in locating the suspects.
