30-Year Sentence for Medford Man in Child Exploitation Case
Federal prosecutors said investigators found more than 300 videos and nearly 8,000 images of child sexual abuse material on David Michael Burnett’s devices.
MEDFORD, Ore. — A Medford man has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison after pleading guilty in a federal child exploitation case involving a minor victim in his care.
The U.S. Department of Justice announced that David Michael Burnett, 37, was sentenced to 360 months in federal prison and a lifetime term of supervised release.
According to court documents, Burnett sent five videos beginning in June 2024 that showed him sexually abusing a minor victim in his care. Investigators later seized Burnett’s devices and found more than 300 videos and nearly 8,000 images of child sexual abuse material.
A federal grand jury in Medford returned a two-count indictment on August 1, 2024, charging Burnett with sexual exploitation of children and distribution of child pornography. Burnett pleaded guilty to both counts on February 3, 2026.
U.S. Attorney Scott E. Bradford for the District of Oregon announced the sentence.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Medford Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Judith Harper.
The case was brought in collaboration with Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative focused on combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program works with federal, state, and local agencies to locate and prosecute people who exploit children and to help identify and rescue victims.
