MEDFORD, Ore. — Medford Fire celebrated the graduation of eight new probationary firefighters after the completion of Recruit Academy 26-01.

The ceremony marked the end of a 13-week academy for the recruits, who were honored by family, friends, City of Medford leadership, Medford Fire officials, and Medford Firefighters Local 824.

The graduating recruits are Francisco Barrera, Christopher Downey, Gabriel Foltz, Jonathan Gassman, Eric Goodboe, Ronald Lee, Kjell Nilsson, and Matthew Torres.

During the ceremony, Chief Thompson recognized the work of academy instructors and the preparation required to enter the fire service.

“The fireground doesn’t create performance, it exposes preparation. Because of your work, this class is ready to serve, and the department is better for it,” Thompson said.
