KCFD1 Firefighters Honored for Klamath Falls Rescue
Unit citation recognizes crews for courage, teamwork, and medical response during a November residential fire
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — Members of Klamath County Fire District 1 have been recognized by the Oregon Fire Chiefs Association for their actions during a residential structure fire rescue in Klamath Falls last fall.
The recognition was presented Wednesday in Sunriver, where KCFD1 personnel received a Unit Citation for their response to a Nov. 14, 2025 residential structure fire involving a critically injured trapped occupant.
The award recognized Battalion Chief Toni Brimmer, Captain Brandon Friend, Paramedic Ken McKeane, Firefighter Treyson Robbins, Firefighter Jonathan Rott, Firefighter/Paramedic Jade Ames, Firefighter/EMT Luke Cronin, and Firefighter/EMT Owen Boswell.
According to KCFD1, the citation honored the crew for “exceptional courage, bravery, and teamwork in providing coordinated rescue and advanced medical care to a critically injured patient during a residential structure fire on November 14, 2025, under extreme and challenging conditions.”

On the morning of the fire, KCFD1 crews arrived at the scene in less than four minutes and immediately began an aggressive fire attack and primary search as conditions inside the home rapidly deteriorated.
Through coordinated operations, firefighters located and removed the trapped occupant within minutes, allowing crews to begin advanced medical treatment shortly after the rescue.
While firefighters train regularly for high-risk structure fire responses, confirmed live rescues from active residential fires are relatively uncommon over the course of a firefighter’s career. KCFD1 noted that national firefighter rescue data shows only a small percentage of residential fires result in viable victim rescues, making incidents like the November rescue especially significant.

The district also cited firefighter rescue research indicating that victims who are rapidly located and removed from residential structure fires by firefighters have approximately a 74% survival rate. KCFD1 said the data reinforces the importance of staffing, training, rapid response, and coordinated operations during critical incidents.
KCFD1 said it is proud of the professionalism, composure, and courage displayed by everyone involved in the response.
The district said the Unit Citation reflects the highest traditions of the fire service and the daily commitment firefighters make to protect the community.
