DEL NORTE COUNTY, Calif. — A new welcome monument has been installed along southbound U.S. 199 at the California-Oregon border, giving travelers entering the state a refreshed gateway in Del Norte County, according to Caltrans.

The monument, funded through Caltrans and the Clean California initiative, replaces the previous signage and is designed to create a stronger first impression while improving the surrounding public space. Officials said the design was shaped in part by community feedback gathered through a public survey.

Caltrans noted the new installation is part of broader beautification efforts underway across the state. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned in the coming weeks to officially celebrate the project.

Another welcome monument is also planned along U.S. 101 at the California-Oregon border in Del Norte County, with additional updates expected soon.

Clean California is a statewide initiative launched in July 2021 focused on removing litter, beautifying public spaces, and creating jobs. According to Caltrans, the program has funded more than 300 beautification projects statewide, with hundreds of community cleanup events and millions of cubic yards of trash removed.
