Mower Sparks Ament Road Grass Fire Near Grants Pass
Rural Metro Fire says the 1.75-acre fire near Moon Mountain was controlled with no structural damage.
GRANTS PASS, Ore. — A mower sparked a grass fire Sunday afternoon near Moon Mountain, prompting a multi-agency response in the 400 block of Ament Road.
According to Rural Metro Fire, firefighters from Rural Metro Fire, Grants Pass Fire and ODF Southwest Oregon District responded to the grass fire at about 4:40 p.m. Sunday.
Crews controlled and extinguished the fire at 1.75 acres. No structural damage was reported.
Firefighters spent much of their time mopping up the grass field and a wood slash pile that had been in the fire’s path.
Following an investigation, Rural Metro Fire said the fire occurred on an agricultural-exempt property and was determined to have been caused by a mower that apparently struck something and created a spark.
