Man Shot by Medford Police Now Booked into Jail

Suspect in Medford Officer-Involved Shooting Booked into Jail After Hospital Release; Case to be reviewed by Jackson County Grand Jury

The man involved in a Nov. 23 officer-involved shooting with the Medford Police Department has been released from the hospital and booked into the Jackson County Jail.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Shane Wesley Smith, 30, of Medford, was treated for injuries sustained during the incident and has since been medically cleared for confinement.

Smith is now facing multiple charges, including:

  • Unlawful use of a weapon

  • Menacing

  • Interference with making a report

  • Attempting to elude police

  • Reckless driving

  • Driving under the influence of intoxicants (alcohol)

Sheriff’s Office detectives are leading the investigation. The case will be presented to the Jackson County Grand Jury, which will determine whether the use of force was legally justified.

Authorities say no additional details are being released at this time, as the investigation remains active.
