Barricaded Suspect Taken Into Custody After Jacksonville Standoff

Domestic assault investigation leads to multi-agency response and SWAT activation

JACKSONVILLE, Ore. — A suspect is in custody following a domestic assault investigation that led to a multi-hour standoff and shelter-in-place alert in a Jacksonville neighborhood last week.

According to the Jacksonville Police Department, officers were dispatched around 10:51 a.m. on April 10 to the 400 block of West Oak Street after receiving a report of an assault involving a knife.

Responding officers arrived within minutes and confirmed that an adult male victim had been injured after being slashed with a large knife. Authorities said the victim, identified as the suspect’s father, was able to escape the residence and call for help. He was treated by emergency responders and is expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect remained inside the home and barricaded themselves, prompting an immediate response from multiple agencies, including the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Phoenix Police Department.

Law enforcement established a perimeter around the residence and began issuing announcements in an effort to communicate with the suspect. Due to concerns the individual may have had access to firearms and other weapons inside the home, additional resources were deployed, including a K9 unit, drone operator, and a remote robotic unit.

Jackson County Mental Health personnel also responded to assist in communication efforts.

As the situation continued, a Jackson Alerts reverse 911 notification was issued, advising residents within a one-block radius to shelter in place. West Oak Street was closed to traffic during the incident.

After approximately three hours without successful communication, officials activated the Jackson County SWAT Team. A search warrant was obtained prior to entry.

At approximately 4:00 p.m., SWAT personnel entered the residence. The suspect had barricaded entry points and retreated to an interior room but was ultimately located and taken into custody around 4:22 p.m. without further incident.

Authorities said the weapon used in the assault, described as a knife approximately 10 inches in length, was recovered at the scene.

The suspect was transported to the Jackson County Jail and lodged on the following charges:

  • Assault in the Second Degree

  • Attempted Assault in the First Degree (Domestic Abuse)

  • Unlawful Use of a Weapon

  • Menacing (Domestic Abuse)

Jacksonville Police credited several agencies for their coordinated response, including Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Phoenix Police Department, Jacksonville Fire Department, Mercy Flights, Jackson County Mental Health, Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon, and the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.

Further updates are expected to be released by the District Attorney’s Office.
