Shots Fired During Medford Break-In

Police say the family escaped safely and the suspect was found wounded inside the Gilman Road home.

MEDFORD, Ore. — A family safely escaped a Gilman Road home Sunday night after reporting a burglary in progress and shots fired by the homeowner, according to the Medford Police Department.

Police said officers responded to the 800 block of Gilman Road at about 10:47 p.m. Sunday, June 21, after the reporting party told dispatchers that someone was attempting to break into the residence.

According to MPD, the family inside the home was able to get out safely and meet responding officers at a location away from the scene.

Officers established a perimeter around the residence. With assistance from drone operators, police said they were able to locate and communicate with the suspect inside the home.

The suspect, identified by police as 21-year-old Nathan Roberson, was found suffering from a gunshot wound, according to MPD. Police said he was taken into custody without incident and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Roberson remains in police custody while receiving medical care. MPD said he is from out of state and had been staying at a nearby hotel.

Police said the case remains under investigation. Roberson has not been formally charged at this time, and the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office has been consulted to review official charges.

MPD thanked the Central Point Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police for assisting with the response.
