Medford Police Identify Homicide Victim, Arrest Suspect

A 19-year-old suspect has been arrested in the fatal assault of 43-year-old Nicole Marie Dominguez.

MEDFORD, Ore. — Medford police have identified the woman killed in a fatal assault Tuesday afternoon and say a 19-year-old suspect has been arrested in the case.

The Medford Police Department identified the victim as 43-year-old Nicole Marie Dominguez. Police said her next of kin has been notified.

Officers responded at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, after citizens in the area of West Jackson Street and Welch Street reported hearing what they believed was a serious assault near the railroad tracks.

As officers responded, witnesses located Dominguez suffering from severe head injuries. Police said officers and emergency medical personnel immediately began life-saving efforts, but Dominguez was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Based on witness statements and video evidence gathered during the investigation, police identified the suspect as 19-year-old Darius McCree-Santangelo. Officers located him walking near West McAndrews Road and Summit Avenue about 20 minutes after the initial call for service.

Police said local businesses were pivotal in providing video footage to investigators that linked the suspect to the crime.

Investigators believe McCree-Santangelo and Dominguez were acquainted. Police said no additional information about their relationship or the circumstances surrounding the incident will be released at this time.

McCree-Santangelo was lodged at the Jackson County Jail on a charge of second-degree murder. Detectives are working with prosecutors from the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office, which will be responsible for prosecuting the case.

The Medford Police Department extended condolences to Dominguez’s family, friends and loved ones.
