KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — Klamath County Fire District 1 firefighters stopped a residential fire from fully spreading to a neighboring home Friday afternoon after heavy smoke and flames were reported on California Avenue.

KCFD1 responded at approximately 2:15 p.m. to a reported residential structure fire in the 800 block of California Avenue in Klamath Falls.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from a single-family residence. Fire conditions were spreading quickly and threatening nearby structures, according to the district.

Crews immediately deployed hose lines, began coordinated fire suppression operations and worked to protect neighboring homes from additional fire extension.

KCFD1 said firefighters were able to prevent the fire from fully engulfing an adjacent residence. The neighboring structure did sustain damage from radiant heat and fire exposure, but crews significantly limited the spread and prevented additional loss in the surrounding area.

The primary residence sustained extensive fire and smoke damage.

No resident or firefighter injuries were reported.

Fire crews remained on scene for an extended period conducting overhaul operations, extinguishing remaining hot spots and making sure the fire was fully contained.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Klamath County Fire District 1 in coordination with the Klamath Falls Police Department.

KCFD1 thanked responding personnel and assisting agencies for their professionalism, dedication and commitment to protecting life and property in the community.
