WILDERVILLE, Ore. — Multiple agencies responded Saturday afternoon to a reported structure fire with people trapped inside a home in the 5200 block of Fish Hatchery Road, according to Rural Metro Fire.

Emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 2:13 p.m. and included responders from Grants Pass Fire Rescue, AMR Josephine County, Josephine County Sheriff's Office, and Oregon State Police.

First arriving crews found smoke coming from both floors of a large two-story residence. Officials said an occupant had already begun battling the kitchen fire with a garden hose before firefighters arrived. Those quick actions helped slow the spread of the blaze.

With flames knocked back enough to gain access, firefighters used ladders to reach second-floor windows and rescued three occupants from inside the home.

Two of the rescued occupants were transported to a hospital with undisclosed burn and smoke inhalation injuries. Their current conditions were not released.

Fire crews also rescued several pets from the home, including three dogs, a cat, and a turtle.

The cause of the kitchen fire remains under investigation with assistance from the Oregon State Fire Marshal.
