Teen Driver Dies in Early Morning Siskiyou County Crash

CHP Investigating Fatal Single-Vehicle Collision Near Yrek

SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. — An 18-year-old driver from Etna died early Friday morning after a single-vehicle crash east of Yreka, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 3:37 a.m. on March 13 along Oberlin Road east of Phillipe Lane. Authorities say the teen was driving a blue 2009 Honda CR-V eastbound when the vehicle left the north side of the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver sustained fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A 16-year-old female passenger in the vehicle suffered minor to moderate injuries and was transported to Fairchild Medical Center for treatment.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

 
 

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the CHP Yreka Area office at 530-842-0530 and request Sgt. Gordon or Officer Gaytan.

The California Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to use caution when traveling during nighttime and early morning hours, including getting adequate rest before driving, avoiding fatigued driving, and never driving under the influence.
