Murder Charge Filed in Grants Pass Shooting

One person killed, another injured; suspect captured in Jackson County hotel

GRANTS PASS, Ore. — A suspect has been arrested following a fatal shooting Wednesday evening in Grants Pass that left one person dead and another injured, according to law enforcement.

Emergency dispatchers received multiple calls reporting a shooting at approximately 6:05 p.m. on March 25 in the 800 block of NE E Street. Officers from the Grants Pass Police Department, Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, and Oregon State Police responded to the scene and located two adult males suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police personnel, along with Grants Pass Fire/Rescue and American Medical Response, provided immediate medical care before both victims were transported by ambulance to Three Rivers Medical Center.

Authorities said an 18-year-old male later died from his injuries at the hospital. A second victim, a 24-year-old male, suffered significant injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.

Investigators interviewed numerous witnesses at the scene and confirmed the suspect fled in a vehicle immediately after the shooting.

 
 

The Grants Pass Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation, working with Oregon State Police detectives and the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office. Following several hours of investigation and intelligence gathering, law enforcement located 21-year-old Kyler Talbot in a hotel room in Jackson County.

Talbot was taken into custody without incident by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and Grants Pass Police.

He was lodged in the Josephine County Jail on charges of Murder in the Second Degree, two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Assault in the First Degree.

Multiple agencies assisted in the investigation and apprehension, including the Oregon State Police Southern Command, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, Grants Pass Fire/Rescue, American Medical Response, Rogue Area Drug Enforcement, the Oregon State Police Crime Lab, the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office, and the United States Postal Inspection Service.
