KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — Two popular Klamath-area campgrounds will reopen next week as the Bureau of Land Management prepares for the 2026 outdoor recreation season.
The BLM’s Lakeview District will open Gerber and Topsy campgrounds on Wednesday, May 13, giving visitors early-season access to camping, fishing, hiking, boating, and other public lands recreation ahead of Memorial Day weekend.
“Each year we look forward to welcoming visitors back to these landscapes,” said Jim Regan-Vienop, Klamath Falls Acting Field Manager. “Gerber and Topsy offer people a chance to unwind, explore, and appreciate the public lands we all share.”
Topsy Campground is located along the upper Klamath River in a high-desert setting surrounded by open ponderosa pine forest and views of the southern Cascade landscape. The area offers opportunities for camping, hiking, picnicking, and enjoying the river corridor.
The gate at Topsy Campground is scheduled to open at noon on May 13. Visitors will have access to 13 campsites, drinking water, vault restrooms, a dump station, camp hosts, trash service, and day-use parking.
About an hour east of Klamath Falls, Gerber Recreation Area offers a wider network of outdoor recreation opportunities across a high-desert landscape. The area includes North and South Gerber campgrounds, primitive campsites, a horse camp, and day-use areas.
Gerber visitors can access opportunities for mountain biking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, backcountry exploring, boating, fishing, and hiking. Amenities include drinking water, vault restrooms, a dump station, camp hosts, two boat ramps, fish-cleaning stations, trash service, day-use parking, and nine miles of hiking trails connecting recreation sites.
Both Gerber and Topsy campgrounds operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
Camping fees remain $7 per night, with a reduced rate of $4 for senior, military, and access pass holders. Day-use parking is $2. A 14-day stay limit is in effect.
Dogs are welcome at both sites but must remain on a leash six feet or shorter. Camp hosts will be available on-site throughout the season.
