JCSO Detective Retires After 28 Years in Oregon Law Enforcement
Detective Ryan Groom honored for two decades of service to Jackson County and 28 years protecting Oregon communities

JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) has announced the retirement of Detective Ryan Groom, marking the end of a 28-year career in Oregon law enforcement—22 of those years serving the Jackson County community.
Detective Groom began his service in 1997 as a reserve officer with the Jacksonville Police Department. Over the next several years, he served with multiple agencies, including the Talent Police Department, Sunriver Police Department, and the Tualatin Police Department, before joining JCSO in 2006.

During his time with JCSO, Detective Groom held a wide range of roles. He served as a patrol deputy, a member of the Traffic Team, the Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team, and the SWAT Team. He also served as a Corporal, field training officer, and drug recognition expert. For the past six years, he has been a detective with the Illegal Marijuana Enforcement Team (IMET).
Sheriff Nate Sickler reflected on nearly two decades of working alongside Detective Groom, noting his impact on both the agency and the community. “He did a lot of things to help our agency grow and help our community be safe,” Sickler said.
Sheriff Sickler also acknowledged the support of Groom’s family throughout his career. “Thank you for sharing your father, your husband with us for the last 20 years, and for allowing him to be in public safety,” he said. “It’s a big deal.”
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office expressed its gratitude for Detective Groom’s dedication, leadership, and long-standing commitment to public safety.
