In-Custody Death Reported at Josephine County Jail

Sheriff’s Office says a 50-year-old adult in custody was found unresponsive during routine cell checks; Oregon State Police investigating.

The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office reported an in-custody death that occurred late Wednesday, Dec. 10, according to Undersheriff Travis Snyder.

The agency said that at approximately 11:45 p.m., during routine cell checks, a Corrections Deputy found 50-year-old Nathan Adams unresponsive in his cell. According to the release, the deputy immediately began lifesaving efforts with assistance from additional staff. American Medical Response arrived and continued emergency care, but Adams was pronounced deceased. Next of kin has been notified.

In keeping with standard protocol, the Oregon State Police was contacted to conduct the investigation. The Sheriff’s Office stated there were no indications of foul play.
