Firefighters Deliver Two Babies in Klamath County
KCFD1 crews assist with two field births in just two weeks
KLAMATH COUNTY, Ore. — Crews with Klamath County Fire District 1 recently helped welcome two new members to the community after assisting with two field deliveries within a two-week span.
According to the district, firefighters and paramedics responded to two separate emergency calls where mothers went into active labor before they could reach the hospital. In both cases, crews assisted with the deliveries in the field and then safely transported the mothers and newborns to Sky Lakes Medical Center for additional evaluation and care.
Officials say field deliveries are relatively uncommon but are an important part of emergency medical services when a baby arrives sooner than expected. Firefighters and paramedics receive specialized training to safely assist with births when hospital delivery is not possible.
“These calls highlight the versatility of our crews,” said Gary Denney, Division Chief of Training for Klamath County Fire District 1. “Our members respond to everything from fires and rescues to complex medical emergencies. Successfully managing two field deliveries in such a short period is a great example of the training, teamwork, and professionalism our crews bring to every call.”
Klamath County Fire District 1 responds to nearly 10,000 emergency incidents each year, providing fire suppression, rescue services, and advanced life support emergency medical care across the district.
District officials congratulated the families on the arrival of their newborns and wished them well.
