ScreenX Experience Coming to Medford Theater
New 270-degree format set to transform moviegoing at Tinseltown
MEDFORD, Ore. — A new immersive movie experience is coming to Southern Oregon, with Cinemark introducing its ScreenX format at Tinseltown Theater in Medford.
ScreenX is a multi-projection system that expands select scenes of a film beyond the main screen and onto the side walls of the auditorium, creating a 270-degree panoramic viewing experience. The format is designed to pull audiences deeper into the action by surrounding them with extended visuals that go beyond the traditional single-screen setup.
Rather than displaying expanded visuals for the entire movie, ScreenX activates during key moments—typically about an hour of a film’s runtime—to enhance major scenes such as action sequences, aerial shots, and dramatic moments. The additional imagery is specially remastered and integrated in collaboration with film studios and directors to ensure it blends seamlessly with the main picture.
The experience is paired with immersive audio, helping create a more dynamic and engaging environment that aims to place viewers at the center of the story rather than simply watching from the sidelines.
According to Cinemark, the premium format will carry an added ticket cost of up to $4.50 compared to standard showings.
Medford audiences can already experience ScreenX with current showings of the Michael Jackson biopic “Michael,” with additional major releases expected to be offered in the format in the future, including upcoming action and franchise films.
Cinemark currently operates a limited number of ScreenX auditoriums nationwide, and the addition in Medford marks an expansion of the technology into the Southern Oregon market.
