Major Crimes Unit investigates assault reported at NE A Street residence

GRANTS PASS, Ore. — A woman was arrested Wednesday night following a stabbing incident at a residence in the 1000 block of NE A Street, according to the Grants Pass Police Department.

Police said officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 8:30 p.m. on January 21 after dispatchers reported hearing a disturbance in the background while speaking with a resident. When patrol units arrived, they found a 39-year-old man suffering from stab wounds to his upper body.

Emergency medical personnel from Grants Pass Fire/Rescue and American Medical Response provided treatment at the scene before transporting the victim to Three Rivers Medical Center. Authorities said the man sustained significant injuries but is expected to recover.

Due to the seriousness of the incident, the Grants Pass Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation around 9:00 p.m. Detectives worked through the night into the early morning hours to conduct interviews and gather evidence.

As a result of the investigation, Heidi Smith, 42, was taken into custody. She was lodged at the Josephine County Jail on charges of Assault in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Authorities said no additional information about the victim will be released at this time. Further inquiries regarding the case are being referred to the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office.
