Klamath & Lake Counties Stand Down Set for Friday at Fairgrounds

Free event connects veterans, service members and dependents with local support services.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — Veterans, active-duty service members and their dependents will have access to a range of free services Friday, June 12, during the Klamath & Lake Counties Stand Down at the Klamath County Fairgrounds in Klamath Falls.

The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Linman Hall and is open to all veterans, active-duty service members and their dependents. Organizers say the Stand Down is designed to connect veterans and military families with services, resources and support in one location.

Services may include VA benefits assistance, housing and employment resources, haircuts and clothing, eye exams and glasses, substance use and mental health support, community resources and referrals, and breakfast and lunch.

Previous Stand Down events have also included access to Social Security information, food assistance referrals, spiritual counseling, hearing-related resources and other veteran support services.

Stand Down events are commonly held across the country as one- to three-day resource events for homeless and at-risk veterans. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, they often bring together VA staff, volunteers, community organizations and service providers to offer food, clothing, health screenings, benefits counseling and referrals for housing, employment, health care, substance use treatment and mental health support.

The Klamath & Lake Counties Stand Down has become an annual resource event for the local veteran community, with this year’s event promoted as the 16th annual gathering.

Other Southern Oregon Stand Down events are also planned later this year, including the Southern Oregon Stand Down & Employment Fair on July 22 in White City and the Roseburg Stand Down on Sept. 23 in Roseburg.
