OSP Investigates Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Klamath Falls
Police said an armed adult male was killed and a minor child was injured during a Friday morning incident on East Main Street.
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — Oregon State Police is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday morning in Klamath Falls after police responded to a domestic disturbance and welfare check request.
According to OSP, the Klamath Falls Police Department responded at about 9:33 a.m. Friday, June 5, to a residence in the 900 block of East Main Street after a 911 call requested a welfare check.
Police said officers made contact with an armed adult male at the residence.
During an altercation with the individual, responding officers deployed deadly force, according to OSP. The man was struck by gunfire and declared deceased at the scene.
A minor child was injured during the incident and transported to a hospital. OSP said the child is currently under medical care and is in stable condition.
No other injuries were reported.
The Klamath County Major Crimes Team was activated to investigate the incident, which is standard protocol in officer-involved shootings.
The Major Crimes Team includes the Oregon State Police, Klamath County Sheriff’s Office, Klamath Falls Police Department, Klamath County Parole and Probation, and the Klamath County District Attorney’s Office. OSP has been assigned as the lead investigating agency.
The involved officers will be placed on paid leave during the investigation, according to standard protocol.
No additional information was available for release Friday evening. Future updates are expected to be provided by the Klamath County District Attorney’s Office.
