Scooter Rider Killed After Collision with Amtrak Train in Portland

Police investigating fatal crash near Southeast 11th Avenue and Clinton Street

PORTLAND, Ore. — A person riding a rented electric scooter was struck and killed by an Amtrak train Friday morning in Portland’s Hosford-Abernethy neighborhood, according to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB).

Officers responded at approximately 10:08 a.m. to reports of a collision near Southeast 11th Avenue and Clinton Street, where they found the scooter rider deceased at the scene.

Authorities said the train stopped immediately following the crash.

The Major Crash Team is leading the investigation. SE 11th Avenue has been closed between Division Street and Clinton Street while crews work at the site.

Officials have not yet released the identity of the victim, pending family notification. The circumstances surrounding the collision — including whether crossing signals were active at the time — remain under investigation.
