Grants Pass — An officer-involved shooting is under investigation following a police response to reports of an armed individual in the roadway on Saturday, February 7.

According to a news release from Oregon State Police, officers with the Grants Pass Police Department were dispatched around 12:30 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a female firing handguns near the intersection of Grants Pass Parkway and M Street.

Police said officers arrived on scene and issued verbal commands for the individual to drop the firearm. Authorities report those commands were not followed. Officers then discharged their department-issued firearms, striking the woman.

The individual was transported to Three Rivers Medical Center, where she was identified as Alicia Shelton, 43, of Grants Pass. Shelton was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

No other injuries were reported.

The Josephine County Major Crimes Team was activated to investigate the incident, with Oregon State Police leading the investigation. The Oregon State Police Crime Lab also responded to process the scene.
