MEDFORD, Ore. – The City of Medford has selected longtime Medford Police Department leader Trevor Arnold as its next police chief.

Arnold currently serves as deputy chief and has more than 27 years of experience with the department. He began his career with Medford Police as a community service officer in 1998 and has since served in every rank within the organization.

The appointment still includes additional formal steps because of the city’s current interim city manager transition process. The Medford City Council has authorized Interim City Manager John Vial to extend an offer of employment to Arnold, which Arnold has accepted.

The council is expected to formally consider the appointment during its May 20 meeting. A swearing-in is anticipated during the June 3 City Council meeting.

“Trevor brings extensive operational experience, strong regional partnerships, and a deep understanding of the Medford community,” Vial said. “His leadership within the department, commitment to public safety, and investment in organizational development made him well-suited to lead the department forward.”

Arnold has served as deputy chief since 2021. In that role, he has overseen department operations, strategic initiatives, major investigations and regional public safety partnerships.

During his career, Arnold also helped establish the Medford Police Department’s Livability Team and has led work involving critical incident response, officer development and community engagement.

“I’m honored by the opportunity to serve as Medford’s next Police Chief,” Arnold said. “This department is filled with dedicated professionals who care deeply about this community. I look forward to continuing to build trust, strengthen partnerships, and support the important work our officers and staff do every day.”

Arnold would succeed Chief Justin Ivens, who announced his retirement earlier this year after more than three decades of service with the Medford Police Department.
