Boomfest 2026 to Mark Final Fireworks Show at Jackson County Expo

Central Point officials cite growth and wildfire risk in decision to end long-running tradition

The City of Central Point and the Jackson County Expo have announced that the July 2026 Boomfest fireworks show will be the final Independence Day fireworks celebration hosted at the Expo grounds.

City and Expo officials said the decision comes as the surrounding area continues to experience significant growth and as wildfire danger in Southern Oregon increases year after year. After evaluating long-term safety and environmental concerns, leadership determined that 2026 will be the last year the traditional fireworks display can be responsibly held at the site.

“We have been thankful for the community’s support of the Boomfest fireworks show over the years,” said Matt Samitore, Public Works Director for the City of Central Point. “So let’s go out with a bang in 2026. Happy Birthday, America.”

Rob Holmbeck, manager of the Jackson County Expo, said the 2026 event will serve as both a celebration and a farewell.

“Boomfest has been a tradition for our community, but with continued development around the Expo and rising wildfire risks, it’s time to transition,” Holmbeck said. “We’re looking forward to celebrating our country’s 250th birthday and the many years of memories created here.”

As part of the 2026 festivities, the Expo and Jackson County Fire District #3 will again host a Community Fireworks Zone. The designated area allows visitors to use fireworks approved by the Oregon State Fire Marshal under supervised conditions.

Expo officials also confirmed that parking lots will once again be open to the public for fireworks viewing during the event.

In addition to Boomfest, several other Independence Day fireworks celebrations are planned across Southern Oregon in 2026, including events in Eagle Point at Eagle Point High School Stadium, Grants Pass at Reinhart Volunteer Park, and at Lake of the Woods.

Officials said more information about Boomfest 2026, including schedules and safety guidelines, will be released closer to the event.
