Nearly five years after the Lava Fire burned across the northern slopes of Mount Shasta, the Shasta-Trinity National Forest says crews have planted more than 1.47 million seedlings across 2,769 acres as part of a long-term reforestation effort.

Two climbers were rescued from Mount Shasta after one fell roughly 700 feet during a descent from the summit, suffering multiple injuries.

An elderly woman was seriously injured in a hit-and-run collision Saturday afternoon in Mount Shasta. Police say the driver, later identified as a 45-year-old man, was located, arrested, and booked on felony DUI and hit-and-run charges.
