Klamath Hatchery has reopened to the public after a long rebuild following the 2020 Two Four Two Fire in Klamath County. The new Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife facility includes fish-viewing areas, restrooms, picnic spots and a modern hatchery building designed to be safer and more resilient.

The Klamath Tribes’ Wildland Fire Program is supporting wildfire response efforts across the United States while continuing to strengthen local fire protection and workforce development in the Chiloquin area.

Federal agencies have awarded $6 million to help tribes and Oregon officials restore spring Chinook salmon in the Klamath Basin through hatchery expansion and remote stream incubation sites.

A 76-year-old Grants Pass woman was killed in a head-on crash on Highway 97 near Chiloquin after her pickup crossed into oncoming traffic, according to Oregon State Police. The highway was impacted for approximately six hours during the investigation.

State funding will support a new wastewater treatment plant in Chiloquin and an infrastructure study of the aging sanitation system in Gilchrist.

Chiloquin students and community members celebrated the grand opening of the district’s new gymnasium with a blue-ribbon ceremony, cultural blessings, and a packed house ahead of basketball season.

Students and staff at Chiloquin Junior/Senior High School gathered for a traditional salmon bake and round dance as part of a day dedicated to celebrating Native American Heritage Month. Hosted in partnership with the Klamath Tribes and community organizations, the event highlighted cultural traditions, salmon’s ecological and spiritual importance, and the value of connecting students with their Indigenous heritage.
