Gunshots Reported in Medford Neighborhood

Police detain multiple individuals after late-night incident near West 8th Street and Hamilton Street

MEDFORD, Ore. — Medford police officers are investigating a report of gunshots late Tuesday night in a neighborhood near West 8th Street and Hamilton Street.

According to the Medford Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 9:28 p.m. on March 11 after receiving reports of shots fired in the area. An officer already nearby reported hearing several gunshots and arrived on scene shortly after the incident.

Additional officers responded to assist. While searching the area, one officer was flagged down by a witness near the intersection who reported hearing gunfire and seeing a white, lowered pickup truck leaving the area.

 
 

Officers later located evidence at the scene consistent with gunshots being fired.

While officers were investigating, a vehicle matching the witness description was seen nearby. Police conducted a traffic stop after the driver pulled into a nearby residence, and two occupants were detained.

Investigators later identified and contacted additional individuals believed to be involved in the incident.

Police say there is currently no indication that anyone was injured. Investigators believe an altercation occurred between several individuals and that, at some point during the confrontation, a firearm was produced and discharged into the air. Authorities have not yet determined who fired the weapon.

The case remains under investigation. Police say there is no known ongoing threat to the public.
